Hey all, I’m on 5.4 and for some reason when my landscape is bigger than 1024 x 1024 it really starts lagging. 4096 x 4096 is nearly 60FPS difference from 512x512. Is this typical or something specifically related to my computer? My performance with everything else has been great, its just this specific section.
What are your Section Size, Sections Per Component, and World Partition Grid Size settings set to?
[edit]So I just ran a test on my machine (Ryzen 3900x, Radeon 5700xt, 32GB system memory), and while I lose about ~30fps at 4k native going from a level with no landscape (or anything else other than directional and sky lights, atmosphere, and volumetric clouds) and adding a 512x512 Landscape (256x256 section size, 2x2 sections, 1x1 components), I don’t see any additional performance loss as I add additional resolution. I went from 512, to 1024, to 2k, to 4k to 8k landscape resolution and my performance stayed at ~50-60 fps when the viewport was fullscreened (with the camera at ground level. FPS would go up to ~75-80 with some distance as more of the landscape goes to lower LODs). DX12, Lumen enabled. Dropping scalability to medium (which disables Lumen) brings the performance up even futher. (In this particular test enabling Nanite terrain didn’t do much for performance, as the terrain is just flat and there aren’t any occluders, so the more granular culling of Nanite terrain doesn’t help)
Its typical even on older engines.
You have to get some fairly aggressive LOD reduction on 8km 2x2 maps to even think about putting more than a landscape in the scene when rendering at 4k.
