Three escape pods tried to land on an unknown planet. Two didn’t make it, but one survived the crash, holding its ground in this alien, hostile world.
I created this scene using Blender, Unreal Engine, Gaea, Marvelous Designer, and Substance Painter. My goal was to mix realism with that mysterious sci-fi vibe.
I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m a huge fan of Interstellar. Even 10 years after its premiere, it still inspires me. The themes, the visuals, and that incredible sense of wonder are things I’ve tried to channel into this project.
I used Blender to create and unwrap the model. Substance Painter to texture it. Marvelous Designer to make the cloth animation. Gaea to craft the awesome alien land. Unreal to set up the scene and render it. Da Vinci to color grade it.
The pod design is based on a concept by Michael Lacek
Big thanks to my friends and colleagues for their patience while I sent them version after version with tiny, invisible changes. Your fresh-eye feedback made all the difference.
This project is a celebration of everything I’ve learned over the years. It’s also a step toward mastering the tools I’ve come to know and love.
I hope you enjoy it! I’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts on this piece.
