Hello All,
I’m a storyteller and I have been working on a high fantasy series for some time now. I have several short stories set in the world that I have imagined as video games. One in particular is rather simple but it reveals a lot about the world I’m building. I am thinking this would be light on rpg elements.
This is unpaid.
There is one playable protagonist and about 15 essential npcs. There are plenty of day and night scenes. There would be a lot of story told through interactions with main npcs.
Different elements like running errands, sword combat, horseback riding, some archery, and (spoiler) would come into play. Players can loot but only to an extent as that’s not a main focus. Players can buy and sell from and to merchants but only as it serves the narrative.
I envision a light weapons and armor customization as well.
Enemies in the game are mostly human but seeing as this is set in the wild at certain points, there can be a few wild creatures to defend against.
I think in total, there would be six or seven acts. The characters involved are all humans. There are no elves or dwarves or anything.
The mountainous community has a few different settings. There’s the forest region and the mountainous region. There’s a cave setting as well. Much of the first part of the game is set in a rather typical medieval town and farm area. I’m not sure how this would be measured in miles but there’s a good amount of space between most of these locations. In these spaces, players can gain xp improving their special ability out of sight of the enemy who has taken over the community. They can gain coin too by helping those in need. Usually, helping with a certain initial task leads to several small battles with the enemy and then a face-off with a minor boss who uses the same special ability as the player. The more of these battles though, the more alert the enemy becomes.
Xp can be gained in town as well by spying and sabotaging as well as eavesdropping.
I’ll share more about the bigger world if anyone wants to move forward with this. The end of the story told below has an mpact in the bigger story although in the bigger story, it’s mention is brief.
Feel free to reach out at any time to discuss this.
Thanks in advance.
The plot is below.
Plot:
A specially gifted young man returns home to his mountainous community to find it under the control of a cult. The cult has long believed that the dragon they worship resides under the mountains where this village is located. The king of the land abandoned the community in fear that the very influential cult’s practices and beliefs would seep into other parts of the kingdom. (more on this later)
There is a most coveted seat on the council in the central village that those with the same gift as this young man would kill for, but the cult leaders strictly prohibit those in the community from using their special ability. Those gifted in the community are intimidated by the gifted who belong to the cult. Therefore, the seat would remain empty. The young man learns a great deal about the cult from his father.
After months of keeping his head down and seeing his friends and family suffer at the hands of this cult, the young man promises the council that he will fill the seat and thwart the actions of the cult. With him on the seat, perhaps the king will send his army to help face off against the cult. After secretly rounding up a few trusted allies, the young man sets off deep into the forests of the mountains and lays out his plans. But he knows that some of those gifted who stand with him now, if they are successful in their attempt to stop the cult, may still betray him and try to appeal to the council for the empty seat.
While in the forests, the rebels learn that another “great force” besides the king is taking big steps to help quash the cult. But their aid is contingent on a dragon actually being found. A girl with half the ability he and others have leaves their hideout and goes to find someone she knows who works for the “great force”. She promises the rebels she’ll do her best to persuade her contact to bring those under his charge to their rescue. But she has only a short amount of time to do this.
The protagonist and his allies make it their mission to sabotage the cult’s dig into the mountains in hopes the cult doesn’t awaken its dragon if it’s really there. They also make it their mission to defeat the cult members who posses the special ability.
One of the more advanced gifted who belongs to the cult enters a cave in the mountains hours after a deadly explosion. The cult found a cave system they believed leads to their dragon. Time is no longer on the rebel’s side. With the forests now on fire, the young man uses his gift and pushes his way past the cult members at the cave entrance. He makes many sacrifices doing this and though he seems to be alone now, he has an ace up his sleeve. There is a great sacrifice in the cave during the climax, one that forever leaves the world to question if the young man is a hero or a villain.
