Steam Subsystem - Server Travel

Hi.

I am currently on Unreal Engine Version 5.0.3 and I am using the Advanced Session and Advanced Steam Sessions.

I have a multiplayer menu where the clients can join sessions. On join session the client joins a “lobby menu”. On ready up, the server can start the game and server travels the clients to a game map.

What’s actually happening is that the server successfully enters the game map whilst the clients get disconnected to the multiplayer menu.

I have seamless travel enabled and everything set up. It works on selected viewport and standalone however when packaging the game, this doesn’t work.

Any help is appreciated. I am honestly stuck and cannot progress with my project due to this.

Hey Christian,

Unfortunately, this is an Engine bug and unless you’re building from source, the only other option you have is to wait for an update from Epic.

You can learn more about it here: UE 5.1 Steam Sockets Problem

It seems specifically related to Seamless Travel. Am saying this because in my case - and it would be in yours, too -, disabling seamless travel would make joining sessions work again, though not as expected I know.

What our team is doing is: moving on. We are in the early stages of development and have plenty of other things to do. That said, we’re concentrating on those and will take some action once we truly need to join sessions through Steam; which hopefully may be just in time for 5.2 or 5.1.1.

If you need it now, please, head to the link I mentioned above where they are discussing the workaround I also mentioned. Again: it will require the engine built from the source.

Good luck!

■■■■. By coincidence, I stumbled upon that Q&A post you linked.

At least I am not the only one experiencing this issue.

I really am disappointed with this bug as it is definitely a hiccup and a game breaking bug. I am new to the forums, is there a way where we can contact Epic to report such bug?

Also thanks for the guide in building the engine from the source. Will definitely use it if the bug won’t be fixed in the near future.

This is where you can report Engine bugs.

I already submitted a report a few days ago. But I think the more, the better, so they can hear us.

Last but not least, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this unfortunate event—it sucks being almost at Epic’s hands, specially when this is not exactly something the majority of the community is having to deal with which would lead us to longer wait times.
