Steam/Mac OS upload prosess

So, I bought a mac book recently to port my game to mac, I’ve gotten pretty much everything working and packaged. Now I need to figure out how to upload the mac version to steam.

All I can find is vague things about using the steam pipe GUI or what not to upload it, but I cannot for the life of me find a version of the steam pipe GUI that will work on mac.

I’m also hearing that apple needs to notarize the game? none of the places I’ve read up on that have actually answered my question on what that entails and what I need to do to get that.

As far I understand there is no Steampipe GUI available for the mac, but related commands can be executed in the terminal app. You also could try to package your game on Windows (with remote packaging on the mac) and to distribute it from there.

But these are all assumptions, as I have never uploaded a game to Steam and probably never will :sob:

I’m not sure what role Apple plays in this, since you distribute your game via Steam rather than the App Store. If you are not distributing the game exclusively in Europe, where other app stores may also be used, I would be cautious.

thanks! commands would make sense but its weird that guides mention the steam pipe gui directly when talking about mac ports. do you happen to know whare I could find the commands I need to use though terminal?

Maybe this guide will help. Yes, it is for Unity, but basically it doesn’t matter whether the .app file was created by Unity or by Unreal, as it’s mainly about uploading to Steam. So just skip to “Uploading your Builds”.

thanks! im trying to follow that but seems like it too is missing some specifics that I need. Perhaps im just really dumb, but all the documentation ive found on the upload process feels veuge or completely difrent steps, I alway hit some sort of wall in witch there are some unspecific instructions/lack of explination for whats happening in the steps.

Im so baffled at the lack of clear guides to upload a mac version. how in the world is it this hard?

there HAS to be a better/clear guide out there somewhare but I cant find it.

yup. i agree. it’s a steam problem btw not an epic problem (the forum you are looking into).

you can configure your depots, set it to mac, then go to the depots setting page and upload manually from the web. you don’t need the pipe gui app.

I know its a steam problem, but there forums aren’t great and I was hoping someone here would have a real answer

my file is too large to upload to the browser.

I believe I need to use steam CMD to do that from what I’ve figured out thus far, but Im not well versed in the terminal on mac and the guides on it are still bad

I believe the part about getting it notarized is something I need to do in unreal though

hmm yeah that’d be an issue.

unfortunately i can’t remember exactly what the process is like using the cmd.

can you post the exact problem you’re having? maybe a screenshot and logs.
