Steam integration: Can´t host a Game

hi there…

I managed to get the Steam overlay ingame to work…
BUT,
Whenever i try to host a session (using advancedSessions or basic Create Session Node), the Opened level loads for a blink of a second, and than kicks me back to the main menü. From there, i can no longer host a Game… as if the hosting gets blocked…

I added this to DefaultGame.ini:

I activated the Steam OSS plugin. Start always via Standalone. Steam is running. I can call the Overlay (Shift+tab)…
I hit “Host”, the new levels blinks up for a sec, then back to Main menü :confused:

Everything worked with OSS NULL, but not with Steam :confused:

The Steam integration is less than lackluster, I’d highly suggest you use mordentral’s Advanced Sessions Plugin(unless you’re already using this). I’ve used it myself and it’s very straightforward to work with, and better yet - it actually bloody works and lets you do stuff.

Hopefully this is something Epic will put some effort into soon, but I’m sure they have their reasons as to it not being particularly high priority as of yet.

Edit:

If you are using the Advanced Sessions, read the thread thoroughly to make sure you’ve set things up properly. You have to reparent your GameInstance to use the one he implemented first of all.

Then with most likeliness you’ve set something up incorrectly, I’d suggest you ask for help on that thread - and try to be as detailed as you can be with how you’ve set things up. The more details you provide, the easier it will be for us to spot what’s wrong and give you an answer. :rolleyes:

1st - Create a Host/Join Project with Chat, using OSS NULL.
2nd - When this works, make a backup
3rd - Add the Steam Lines to DefaultGame.ini (see Lines in OP)
4th - Activate OSS Steam Plugin
5th - Restart Editor (since Plugin Change requires this)
6th - Run Steam
7th - Playtest in Standalone Mode (only)
8th - OP written Problem occurs

OnlineSubsystem Null = worked
OnlineSubsystem Steam = not working

As I said, make sure you read the thread thoroughly in case someone else have run into the same issue as you. Also, make sure you’ve set up the GameInstance properly, reparent yours to the SteamGameInstance or whatever it’s called.

You can’t host again cause your session never got destroyed. At least that makes the most sense to me.
Can you host again after restarting the editor? If yes then you need to make sure to destroy the session if you enter the main menu.

For the returning to main menu issue:

It fails to init your net driver and to bind/listen to port 7777. Are you using that somewhere else?

And here it throws you back to the main menu.

EDIT: Try to put the net driver definition of your config file under “Engine.Engine” instead of “Engine.GameEngine”.
