State Machines VS Motion Matching?

I have started and restarted over the past year because Epic Games seems to switch things up on me pretty much as soon as I get the hang of using UE5. I am not sure I will ever fully grasp the engine and actually use it to develop a small game. But I started this thread to see what you all think?

Do you believe this recent innovation of UE5 will eventually fully replace state machines and the previous Animation blue print methods for adding anims?

Man I tried to understand how to use that motion matching stuff but I didn’t get very far… It’s on my list of things to do.

It is super complicated to get all the possible animations not only created but in the right positions (and configured properly) in a chooser table. However, once the hard work is done there, the characters seem sooooooo very fluid in their anims I believe it will make state machines obsolete one day.
