Hi. I’ve just installed Unreal 5.7, but the option for adding Starter Content has vanished. Any idea what is going on here? Is this a glitch, or is it permanently removed?
It is no longer shipped with the prebuilt binaries looks like. Seems to have been removed. I don’t think anything valuable was really lost with it I think it was a bit outdated.
Hello @nullbio1 , Welcome to forums!
I did some research and it seems that, at least for now, Unreal Engine 5.7 doesn’t include the Starter Content. I also couldn’t find any official note from Epic saying whether this is temporary or if they plan to keep it that way, but there’s a simple workaround to get the Starter Content into 5.7.
You just need to create a project in an earlier version, like Unreal 5.6, and enable the Starter Content when you create it.
Once inside that project, right-click the StarterContent folder and choose Migrate
A window will pop up ,click OK
then select the Content folder of your Unreal 5.7 project as the destination.
That’s it. After migrating, you should have the full Starter Content available in your 5.7 project.
Hope it helps!
You don’t have to create a UE5.6 project and migrate - there’s a better way which adds the feature pack to 5.7
If you go to the engine install folder for 5.6, you see 2 folders of interest. The samples folder contains the starter content. Copy that to your 5.7 folder.
Once you’ve done that, go into FeaturePacks. This folder has a file called StarterContent.upack. Again, copy this one file into the 5.7 feature packs folder. Then, in Unreal you can now add the starter content. It’s not ideal but it definitely works.
The content works fine. Also, as for it being out of date - the textures and assets in the starter content are actually quite good and useful for those starting out. I think it is strange that it was removed. At least it is easy to add back in.
Adding content is possible in the content browser with the add button :
Seems to be missing from the documentation Assets and Content Packs in Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.7 Documentation | Epic Developer Community

This worked for me. Thank you very much for sharing this workaround
Awesome, thank you very much, this was the solution.
