Standalone App for FAB

Hi,

I was just wondering if there will be a standalone application for FAB released in near future. (Similar to Quixel Bridge)

It would be really great to use FAB marketplace and library without having a RAM-eating browser opened during work.

Most Probably No.
Since for Artstation, Sketchfab there were No Apps and for Unreal Marketplace and Quixel there was implementation with Unreal Engine. But main objective for Fab was to Monetize UEFN Audience and therefore Fab already have implementation with Unreal Engine and UEFN through Plugins.

But there very slim possibility of it being included with Epic Games Launcher.

Hi @A.Jeiranashvili . It’s not something that we would have anytime soon, though you’re not the first person who we’ve heard this from. I’ll add your +1 to the list. Thanks for your question and feedback.

Abby can we PLEASE get confirmation that Bridge won’t be removed until Fab has developed this alternative.

I along with many many many working artists, along with studios I work at completely wholeheartedly depend on the Bridge workflow. (not an Unreal user)

If I can add one thing to the list (sorry, I know it’s already long) - related to this (but not quite a standalone app) is the fact that Fab has no native unreal engine launcher integration.

A bit disappointing to see so many important features removed, but adding to this list the fact that the Marketplace Tab in the unreal engine launcher literally just a link to Fab.com now whereas the marketplace was fully integrated there.

I understand artstation, sketchfab etc. not having their own apps but UE already does and the marketplace was previously already integrated there until FAB.

This tab doesn’t even scale properly, the text gets BIGGER when you resize the launcher to be smaller.

Hi @AZAWESTIE . I’ll check with the team and get back to you. If you don’t hear from me, please feel free to @ me - I do my best to keep track of all the threads but I’m not always successful.

Thanks for that feedback, @Krabworks, I’ll pass it on to the team. We’re planning to swap out the landing page but didn’t want to do it immediately, because it could have been disorienting for people who weren’t aware of UE Marketplace being replaced by Fab.

Ok, thanks <3 appreciate it!

@skfabby thanks Abby. Ill check in after the weekend. Just to be super clear, what is being requested is the Bridge tool in combo with Quixel as it always has been. This is what we need to have resolved before anything happens to Bridge (due to 100% pipeline dependencies).

I completely understand not having a Bridge tool for the whole Fab site, that just wouldn’t work with all the DCC’s.

So again, just referring to Quixel. You already have Bridge sitting right there, so hoping that can also be migrated over as its just as much a feature to Quixel as the assets themselves.

It’s interesting. Do you actually realize that you have removed the quick and easy bridge workflow for some business reason and replaced it with manual approach wich will take 5x more time to handle every asset now. You don’t need to answer this becayse I understand you don’t have possibility to give your opinion but this is litteraly the worst desision a company can make. You can ask unity an advice for bad decisition. They have a lot of experience in that))

To correct you (I mean that sarcastically) its actually 30x slower (at best)

In Bridge it took 1 click, 10 seconds to download lets say…

In Fab, you have to download up to 4 zips, extract 4 zips, delete all the unused assets from these zips, consolidate into a folder, create a thumbnail yourself. I tested this 5 times, on average 5 minutes.

That’s 10 seconds vs 5 minutes, not to mention any queuing you can do in Bridge which pushes this out further. (5 x Bridge Que = 50 seconds vs 5 x Fab = 25 minutes)

@skfabby circling back to hear what the plan is here (as it’s obviously very crucial). Team say anything?

Please don’t left Linux and Mac users out there cold to death.
Especially I ask for support help considering the Fab plugins never work on these 2 platforms…

We’re figuring out a plan and aim to have something to share soon.

@skfabby Appreciate the teaser, however until something is ready please consider rolling back all things Quixel Bridge so productions can still continue in all DCC’s. Turning parts off until 100% migration is ready is detrimental.

@skfabby just bumping this as we cant work without Bridge, when you say “soon” could that be clarified?

2025 is right around the corner and the threat of Bridge being completely terminated without replacement will completely disable all our pipelines. Comms and commitments here would go a long way as I’m sure you could imagine.

+1 on this. Shutting off development pipelines without a satisfactory replacement with feature parity is no bueno

@skfabby another bump. Only pressing this as it’s been mentioned many times Bridge will expire in the new year. Can we expect changes to this timeline, or simply a statement to clear the air?

I see people here and on all socials asking for this, so some sort of address to these huge concerns I think would go a long way.

Any updates?

It’s not a standalone app but for other people struggling to get assets from Fab you can get it working this way.

Be sure to close Unreal Engine down before following the instructions above.
