Srubbing timeline outside Sequencer

Hi, newbie question whilst animating. I have a cinematic in Sequencer and I want to animate an object (say a ball which is a static mesh). I keep having to go back to sequencer to highlight the window and advance the frame, then return to the pespective window, pose it then jump back to sequencer just to advance. In other words once you are in the perspective window, one cannot just advance frame or scrub since I am not in sequencr anymore.

So how do I work since in most 3D packages the frame advance is always understood. Is there a silly thing I am doing here to avoid jumping back and forward?
