Spine alternatives for Unreal 2D Skeletal Animation

Hi. I am new to game development and Unreal. I realy want to use skeletal animation for my 2d assets. I find Spine but I dont like to spend 70 dolar at the beggining my hobby. Could you suggets any free alternatives can be exported to Unreal 5?

Hey there @Onur344! Welcome to the community! So there’s a couple of alternatives, but not many on the free side.

If you’re fine without having plugin integration (meaning you’d have to export it to a format UE can read natively) you could look into Spriter which has a free version and a version 2 will be coming ~eventually~. The pro version however is just as pricey as Spine2D.

I’ve seen user’s recommending DragonBones as well, but last I heard it didn’t have any native compatibility to export the animations as images instead of JSON and texture atlases so this wouldn’t work out of the box, but it’s open source so totally free to tinker with if you have the capabilities!
