Notes & Thoughts
Hi everyone! Thanks for taking the time to checkout my take on the challenge! Upon hearing the theme, my mind instantly jumped to the idea of a spell being cast upon instruments to put on a performance, accompanied by celestial-like VFX. I’ll share my thoughts on how I went about making the particles below!
First, I know I wanted the touching point between the bow & instruments to have a strong glow, so I made the bright center portion with a vortex spinning around it to mimic rings around planets. I also wanted trails on the bows, so I added other particles in the shape of the bows.
I also wanted aura’s under the instruments and Gideon to focus the viewer on them. I also added floating particles that appeared once the spell was cast, and a second set of white particles to mimic stars once the spell got intensified.
To add to the emphasis, I added a ring around Gideon which consists of 2 elements. One particle taking on the shape of the ring around the chests from Epic’s “Content Examples” network replication level, and another that had a vortex & velocity added to it. That way I had a solid ring & particles.
Sadly, I misread the deadline and thought submissions were able to be submitted until 3/7/2023, so I had to finish everything last night and didn’t get to add as many details & polish as I’d like.
Touching more on that, in the beginning of the video, you can see that it’s daytime, and what I also added was that when the spell was cast, it turns dark to show the night sky. I wanted to incorporate planets & stars coming through the ceiling, kind of like how it happens in the Harry Potter movies, but I will have to do that next time.
Overall, I’m still really happy with how it came out and that I participated in this. It allowed me to utilize all my skills that I’ve gained since I started working with Unreal. I made the soundtrack as well! It was going to have more elements but I didn’t have the time to go that in-depth.
If I think of more things that came to mind when I made this, I’ll update this post! Thanks again for checking this out!
