I’m having an issue with panning, it can be heard in this video :
Here is how I experience spatialization in UE (I’m only talking about panning here, not volume attenuation) :
If I’m facing and close to an object that emits sound and move laterally left and right, then I will hear that sound being panned to my right and left ear ; so far that makes sense.
If I move away from the object I’m facing by walking backwards, then moving laterally left and right will have less impact on the panning ; that also makes sense.
But if I look up or down at that point, then moving laterally left and right will have a strong impact on panning as if I was close to the object ; that doesn’t seem right.
This also happens, for instance, if I move up or down from the object while still facing the horizon. There are also unnatural things happening when rotating the camera rather than moving laterally.
Here are typical settings that I use. I disabled the other three attenuation options while recording the video above. Changing from “binaural” to “panning” doesn’t help.

Is it the normal behaviour of spacialized sounds ? Is there a way to take distance along the “camera z” direction into account to dampen panning ?
