Space Fruits, Michel Lanoie

Just realized that there was an Unreal community forum hehe! So here it is, a personal project completed last year. I’ll try to convert the main landscape scene to UE5 to see how it looks and if I could make a more detailed version of it.

Hey there @Kingpoby,

Welcome to the Unreal Engine Community Forums!

Watching your short film was truly a pleasure. The duality of this high-tech stunning world relying on a piece of organic matter to heal is such a down-to-earth feeling. Beyond that though, the art style of the film is genuinely breathtaking and so incredibly charming. I am curious though, what specifically motivated this project?

Also lurked through your ArtStation a bit and your portfolio can be summed up in one word - impressive! I look forward to future space fruit pursuits and seeing more of your work.

Ha thanks, such a warm welcome! I knew one day I would do landscapes and that the time would come to do it, it just seemed like pure fun, looking at other art posts and such. Stuff like that in my mental backlog just waiting to be tackled one day. So one morning I felt really good and decided to sketch out mountains, and one idea leading to another, I thought about the crystals and as I have done many wires in the past, and was inspired by something in particular, some kind of muscle roots from the Siva DLC (Destiny), I thought it would be cool to build those growing veins and find a way to industrially harvest this energy. And then the workload and ideas kept piling up to have something that would make sense as a whole. I was such in the zone for this project, like never before. Working a project in real time (no render) is also why it was such an amazing experience. I’m looking back at this project with a big smile. For the mood and colors, I was greatly inspired by a quixel demo called Rebirth, I always wanted to go to Iceland, and the game Samorost, Mass Effect + some Limbo and Inside!

This is totally insane!!!

I was blown away by everything, concept, ideas, environment, lighting, color palettes, post process, music, motion camera, etc etc etc.

Fantastic job

In a world where over-production robbed the land of fertile soil, a brave team of scientists on a mission to find the philosopher’s stone of healing fruits, arrive to a planet abundant with a species of fruit that can heal and save mankind. Michel Lanoie presents…Space Fruits - the smart, prismatic, suspiciously delicious Gushers of tomorrow!

Greetings @Kingpoby ! Space Fruits is in every artistic angle, an aesthetically awe-inspiring masterpiece! Your choice of colors and your assets are unparalleled! It was outstanding to see your drawings manifested in-engine!

I’m impressed with how the energy moving through fruit’s veins resemble neurons travelling down a nerve path toward the fruit - the brain. I can also see the veins and fruit resembling arteries attached to a heart. Either way, your concept is absolutely thought-provoking.

The outer packaging reminded me of the 5 Gum packaging, if it was inspired by you on another planet in the future. The before and after, and the social media of your world - hahaha! :joy: I love your humor in this!

Which software do you frequently use for your projects? What would you say is your strongest artistic attribute? Are there any areas that you would like to improve on?
