SONIC UNREAL but, I need some help!

At this point, I’d like to step in and remind people that it is against the terms of using the Unreal Engine to use characters and properties that you do not hold the rights to use.

Maybe that it was a very good series, until Boom came along (at least in my perspective)? Maybe the series was running… uphill (get it? He runs slower when going uphill? :P) for awhile, but that’s about the point I would say it went into ruin, for me…
No, Knuckles was never intended to be the Incredible Hulk… LOL
Anyway, maybe the fact that there is no other game with similar physics that has gone on so long?

I understand. Fine, if I have to not make fan-games …
The other idea might not be like a Sonic game. I don’t know about using speed building (or at least loops) in that one.

You can make fan-material, the trouble is, you cannot release it to anybody (but it’s fine to make things for your own learning purposes and never share them).

That’s the thing. I want to make the game that I want to play, but I also feel like others should be able to play it, too. I grew up on fan-contributed games like Super Mario Bros. Crossover and Super Smash Flash and it’s sequel. I’ve never owned a new, high-end console.
But I believe I can totally manage to not make fan-games on , at least not for others to play.

Okay let’s make this very clear one last time.

You totall CAN do anything you want. If it’s legal, that’s a different question. You have been warned and if you want to create a game like that, then please, go ahead! Blow us all out of the way with your new and amazing Sonic fan-game.
But if somewhere down the like some lawer from SEGA comes around and sues you then that’s up to you alone.

I’d love to see something like this, and I’d love to encourage you to do it, but be aware that you will face legal consequences eventually.

The link. In my signature. It’s /down there./
About the copyrights. I said I probably won’t be making a fan-game over .
What would be funny is if Disney saw your post, and accused you of making a post which contained a reference to a picture with their copyrighted material, and sued you. Now THAT is legal bullying.

And that is why I said what I just said. It’s not the best idea for some kid to post a fan-game for download, because it would lead to more legal issues than it’s worth.

I have not seen!. I deliberately close my eyes!
What I see is only a gray mist hovering in my memory.

[FONT=Arial Black]Maybe one day i`ll be puting in my signature:

LOL. I actually did see. Did you? Or do you actually not know what image you posted a link to? LOL

Except it wouldn’t be. They obtained the proper licensing rights to allow them to use all of the characters in that film that belonged to other companies. Technically speaking, it doesn’t matter if you’re a kid in his garage making a “fan-project” or are some big multi-billion dollar production company, as long as you can get the proper licensing permissions from the respective copyright holders, you can legally make whatever you want.

Showing an image is not inherently some form of copyright violation. You could post that image where ever you liked, and short of claiming it as your own or using it to promote something (or some how profit) without permission, there is nothing illegal about it.

That’s kinda what I’m thinking, now. How would you get such licensing permissions?

Contact the copyright holder…in the case of Sonic, that would be SEGA. Now as to what specific contact method to use, I’m fairly clueless, my guess would be their default business contact.

Okay. I’ll check it out sometime.

This thread is a ride.

Is this when you just ignore people? LOL

About my pseudo signature, not existent in this dimension:

I prefer original things, like the kind that I can sign using my name. Movies (etc.) like that leave me with distaste, nausea, loathing, abhorrence. I hardly saw anything. It is because of this that I wrote that I saw this through a darkest gloom. ie. I saw but also I have not seen. It’s very philosophical. It is almost a paradox from the non-existentiality, of being and not being. Perhaps a Freudian Platonism with a Jungian pinch referring to Shakespearian’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. [FONT=arial black]I also think this thread should be moved to General Discussion.

That’s a good point. How do you do that? You know how new I am to all this…
EDIT: Am I just supposed to start a new thread, perhaps delete this one?

Define sharing please. And just for your information as to why you should define it:
's a well known guy getting a present package from Epic Games for infringing upon dozens well known IPs, inlcuding Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, Sonic, Mario etc. using the unreal engine and releasing tons of videos on a youtube channel.

EPIC games present unboxing again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbxxFkrzf2M
channel content showing off all the IPs: https://www.youtube.com/user/CryZENx/videos

So not only wasn’t the channel taken down, he was rewarded for it by Epic Games as well.

Step 8: Get sued and prepare to be torn apart in a legal battle.

Seriously though, there is an Unreal Live Stream on Youtube that talks specifically about copyright and some of the legal aspects. I couldn’t find the video but I’m sure someone will know the video I’m talking about? Funnily enough they actualy made a joke about making a Sonic game and how much of a bad idea it is lol.

My suggestion besides watching the video would to be create your own game inspired by Sonic, create brand new characters, levels, game mechanics and so on. You never know, maybe one day your game would be prefered over the Sonic franchise, however it will never become popular if it’s even a 5% copy of the official Sonic so make something completely original.
