Someone please help explain (uncommitted) Reserved VRAM Memory Buffer to me. Is it dead weight VRAM tax???

Can someone please explain why the uncommitted memory buffer uses SO MUCH VRAM? I can’t find any information about it on the internet, google can’t find anything, AI can barely find even scraps of discussion. How is this part of the engine not even discussed??? Does this ever get fully used or will I be at 8GB of VRAM used and the engine will start dumping VRAM onto RAM before dipping deeply into the uncommitted reserved memory buffer?

And if it’s true that it won’t pull from this VRAM even when VRAM begins to be exhausted, then is there any possible way to reduce it at least a little? This thing eats 20 to 30% of the VRAM budget for 8GB cards as a target end-user! I really hope this thing gets used before VRAM runs out, or else this is the stupidest VRAM tax ever.

If you want to see it in your games to see what it’s at just enter the command “stat rhi”

It’s been 7 days, I still haven’t found any way to profile this to see if this makes sense or if this is just wasted VRAM for the majority of games. I would do just about anything to get this VRAM reduced, it’s a huge bottleneck for my game.

6 more days, still don’t know the answer to this.

Also confusing about memory usage at CitySample. But 21Gb deffenetly not Vram
