My roof mod: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=503554775&searchtext=
My mod works fine for me, and many other people, when testing in editor, in single player, and on a dedicated server, but some people report being unable to place some of the structures. I have tried testing it with other mods that they report they use, and still I can’t reproduce the bug. I feel like I’ve done everything by the book and made the mod as stackable as a mod probably can be, and I don’t understand why some users get this bug.
What I’d like to know is if other modders have experienced this, if it’s a common bug, what you may have found to fix it, or if this is just a problem with my mod. Just looking for some general wisdom and advice for how to troubleshoot the problem better. Thanks in advance.
No I didn’t do that, is that a general practice to follow? Is it that users are connecting to servers with the mod, but their client doesn’t have the right version?
Do servers automatically run available mod updates on restart, or do admins have to manually update the mods? I have no experience running an Ark server, but someone that is using my mod on their server asked this. When you say it ‘forces’ them to update, does that mean it forces the client to update or gives a message to the player to update?
Yes, resetting the GUID forces the server admins to update their mod files before anyone else can join. This way they aren’t running older versions of the mod that might not be compatible and blame you for any problems that arise from this.
Also, apparently you can cheat in my items but can’t place those? But if you learn the engram and craft them you can? Any idea why that might be the case?
He says that if you cheat the item in using the mod id instead of the .umap name, it causes the player to get the item but not be able to place it.
Also, someone mentioned needing to reset the GUID every time you update your mod, because somehow some players log on to a server with the wrong version of the mod.
98% of the time, when I have a user that has an issue on their server, it almost always turns out to be one of those dirty mods in the mix. A Dirty mod destroys the clean ones if they don’t update like the rest of us. I always walk them through checking which mods they have - and when I hear of one of the several core changing mods, I ask them to see if it’s updated or disable it - and WHAMO! Working mods across the board again.
