[SOLVED] unexpected change in reconstruction region

Hi there,

I today run into an issue that I didn#t have in earlier versions of the RC software…it’s around the clipping box feature.
When I set reconstruction region manually and then use the clipping box feature based on that reconstruction region boundaries unexpectedly change (pop out) at a random point during the the mesh reconstruction process …ending up with much larger reconstruction region than initially set.

Any idea what causes the issue?

Hi Sabry
We strongly advise you NOT to play with the bounding box when it reconstructs a model… It’s a safe way to avoid any problems like this …

Hi sorry…I did not play with anything…there’s no way I can interfere here… as during the construction process the screen is in a “locked” state…all I can do is watch the process go…as I indicated earlier…the software does it by it self… it changes the bounding box (expands)…it just pops out…very awkward behaviour…

Hi Sabry

To get it clear what you have done and what you got as a result – you have:

  1. set BBox ( reconstruction region ) manually
  2. started the reconstruction
  3. started to play with the clipping box and set a SMALLER area with it than the original BBox ?
  4. after the reconstruction was finished, did you get a different reconstruction area than was set in the BBox or with the clipping box ?

Because it is not absolutely clear what the problem is and how to alternatively reproduce it…

Hi , not quite as described above…it was more like that (PROMO version)

  1. I set reconstruction region manually
  2. I used the clipping box feature (option - create from reconstruction region)
  3. I start mesh reconstruction process
  4. I do NOTHING other than watching the CR working (I see horizontal progress bar)
  5. Unexpectedly…reconstruction box (BBox) pops out and the is 3 times the size it has been before.
  6. Reconstruction process continues normally.
  7. Reconstruction process completes …taking much longer time than expected and creating unnecessary artefacts that were captured within the enlarged BBox.

Is this clearer now? Thanks.

Hi Sabry
One small question - what do you want to get with the clipping box ??

Hi, by using the clipping box I sought to remove unnecessary artefacts from the reconstruction area after performing the alignment function…just see the clean aligned images to be reconstructed on my plane.

Hi , any advise at all…on the above issue that I’m facing …?

Hi Sabry
Use it as mentioned earlier… Do not play with the clipping box when you do a reconstruction

Use the clipping box AFTER the reconstruction is done…

Thanks for the reply…sadly you haven’t addressed my issue as I HAVE NOT PLAYED WITH THE CLIPPING BOX DURING THE RECONSTRUCTION PROCESS (!)…I am repeating the sequence of steps ONE MORE TIME…please read carefully:

  1. I set reconstruction region manually
  2. I used the clipping box feature (option - create from reconstruction region)
  3. I start mesh reconstruction process
!!! 4. I do NOTHING other than watching the CR working (I see horizontal progress bar) !!!
  4. Unexpectedly…reconstruction box (BBox) pops out and the is 3 times the size it has been before.
  5. Reconstruction process continues normally.
  6. Reconstruction process completes …taking much longer time than expected and creating unnecessary artefacts that were captured within the enlarged BBox.

Hi,
have you tried it without the point 2 ?
It seems like a bug … I must try to reproduce it. I assume that without point 2 it will work properly.

Thank you for the post.

Thanks for your feedback Michalj. I am now avoiding point 2 and have no issues in that respect. Just wanted to note that in earlier version I used to include point 2 and never had an issue. Cheers.
