[Solved] Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed

SOLVED(?): With NONE of the settings below enabled/changed and everything back to default, I simply changed the Play Mode to New Editor Window (PIE). This opens a separate window to playtest in. Then I waited for it to finish compiling the 200K+ shaders (which seemed to be the problem). Now I can playtest with the playmode in Selected Viewport like normal without issue.

Is anyone else’s UE (4.27) crashing when trying to play the Hogwarts Legacy Creators Kit in editor?

I am following WizzardForge’s dungeon tutorial and only have a floor, overland global sky, and player start in the level.

So far I have tried:

No other programs running,

I have verified HLCK files through the Epic Games Launcher,

Updated gpu drivers

Disabled iGPU

And changed to Dx11 in project settings through the two options Default RHI & DirectX 11 Support

I tried enabling the launch debug logs but can’t seem to find any log files in the project folder (C:\Program Files\Epic Games\HogwartsLegacyCreatorKit\PhoenixGame\Mods\TEST_Home), perhaps I’m looking in the wrong place though. UE 5.6.1 works fine.

My guy HOW did you fix it??

I’ve been having issues with it as well, I worked with AI to walk me through the whole process and things I did, man I done it all to try and fix this, this toolkit is so broken.

I shouldn’t have to configure 50 things just to get a toolkit to work. 20k Shader caches being a problem? No, it’s a toolkit trying pull a 400k asset library of meshes, textures, animations, and blueprints all at once in a viewport at the bottom of your toolkit only to choke on and die from because no PC today can run that. Shader caches is the least of your problem in this case.

Some people think their aren’t many modders out of game popularity, no it’s because there is only one toolkit for Hogwarts Legacy and it’s a 428GB monster that can’t survive a launch much less people dedicate to a memory hog like that to figure out.
