So you want to make a map

Thanks!

of course, always welcome

Hey man, I can put this in video form if youā€™d like  (I kinda planned to make a map making tutorial eventually anyways)

Oh, please do! I would love to see this process in action on a map with multiple landscapes and level streaming and so on.

This is an excellent spring board for me, thanks

Nice Tutorial for the day night cycle mate.
I followed every step to the detail but I end up with weird things.
My ingame clock shows 12:00 but the light doesnā€™t seems right. Any ideas?

Oh and when I turn my character towards the sky everything goes black.

UPDATE: I managed to get the light back to normal but the screen still blacks out when I look up.

FOUND SOLUTION:
The black out of the screen was caused by wrong AtmosphericFog settings.
The dark lightening was caused by wrong Dirrectional Light color settings.

New problem occured:
Everything works fine. Just the dirrectional light is not moving at all. Even when the sky turns into night it is still at the same spot. Any ideas?

I keep answering my own questionsā€¦

Thatā€™s how you learn

Any hint why my sun is not moving? The sky color change works to night just the sun is static :frowning:

make sure your level blueprint is correctly setup (no errors) and that all matinees and linked up properly, I also believe you need to link something within one of the lighting assets, Id start with checking these

I think you are right there must be a missing link to the light. Canā€™t figure out what. Matinees are setup and no errors.
I also noticed that my static clouds are black and in the original map they are grey. Where can I set their colors?

just go into your daytime matinee and it should update and ur clouds become white and nice

I checked the matinee for the sun and when I play it it moves properly but when I start the game nothing. What did I miss?

Is there anything I have to do with the directional light except adding it as actor in the matinee and linking it to the sky sphere?

I believe you are missing something in your level blueprint to start the day night cycle, the sun moves according to the clock so make sure that works as well and you should be good

EDIT: It is abit late for me to troubleshoot this atm but pop by my stream tomorrow (friday) and we will see if we can figure it out

Yo mate,

Just woke up. So the situation is as following.
Matinees are set up properly. I checked the daycycle in the matinee and there it works. Also my clouds are still black (only the static big ones.) the small moving ones are right.
I hear the transition sounds for the dayevents and the sky changes to night so the only dam thing not moving at all is the sunā€¦
The clock counts alsoā€¦

Btw I noticed some checkboxes in the matinee editor. Do I have to tick them? What are they there for?

Level blueprint?

I also noticed that if I enter the matinee settings and then close them my perspective window light fracks up badly and its even dark if I run the game. I have to reload my map again to get the light back to normal. What is going on???

Still stuck at the dam day night setting ā€¦ :frowning:

The checkboxes are only so you can see the graph in the matinee to adjust it, And i still believe that there is something broken or missing http://grab.by/Owy8 make sure all of its content compiles properly and has no errors or warnings

Thanks mate I will try that. We finally finished the town prefabs for our map so I have time to bugfix some stuff on it.

Yo, just copy theIsland and delete the stuff you donā€™t need. Thatā€™s what I did, and never had to setup a day/night cycle, or any of that stuff. It seems like the longer route, but believe me, it saves you from many errors, and once you do it, and you have the perfect template from which to start any new map.

Is there any way to summon the original TheIsland Level Blueprint into my game?
