So UE4 just corrupts map files if you happen to have an outage with one open?

I had a power outage while working on a map a few hours ago. Upon loading up the project I find out that the map is somehow corrupted. It’s not even showing in my content browser, and opening it from the recent file list just loads a blank empty map. Shortly after it crashes.

I’ve had outages with programs running before and never had an issue unless I was actively saving while the outage occurred. But this isn’t what happened here, I simply had the map opened when the power was lost. I lost several hours worth of work. On top of that there were no backups of the map I was working on for some reason.

Is there any particular reason for why UE4 would corrupt a map like that? Just for having a power interruption with it merely being opened?
