So I put an animated GIF on my signature, am I allowed to do that? May be a dumb question but you might not know when your breaking the rules you know.
Please don’t. I wish sigs here would have a 4 line height limit.
Hello,
Though we do have rules about size and lines, GIFs in signatures (oddly enough) has never come up.
[06]](Forum Rules/Code of Conduct - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums) Keep signatures to a reasonable size. Refrain from using images wider than 600px and 100px tall in your signature or having signatures that are more than 5 lines total, using fonts no larger than the default forums size. We want you to have the ability to express yourself, please be respectful of other forum readers when designing your signature by adhering to these guidelines
As of right now there is nothing against having GIFs, but I’m happy to hear all opinions on this topic. Some people may find it distracting and others may want to be able to express themselves. I want to make sure that I am aware of any problems that may occur because of GIFs in signatures before making a change to the rules.
I am fine with the small ones but it can be distractive.
People on fine internet connections will have no problem.
People on mobile, or satellite, or in Africa, will have significant problems with this.
Whom do we care more about – users expressing themselves, or users on limited pipes?
Signatures do show up on the mobile version of the website. If 50 people had 2 MB gifs like a OP, that would be 100 MB towards potentially 1 GB-10GB limits which are pretty common here in the US.
Alright, the people have spoken and I agree that it would be a killer for people who don’t have the bandwidth. I’ll update the rules.
I Create Art! just remove the gif when you get the and replace it with a still image (within 600px/100px). Thanks for being cool and asking about it!
GIFs in signatures and animated profilephotos is allways annoying.
Rodger that.
