So I deleted a project from my unreal menu and it deleted all my files on my computer and I can’t figure out why or how to get them back?!

I was working on a project and sent it to my friend to bake the lights on his pc. He sent the project back to me and I opened in it unreal 4.23 and the project was empty so I went to delete from the epic launcher and when I did every file on my desktop started disappearing. Literally my entire Mac book is empty every file is gone and I don’t know why and or how to fix it. Please someone help.

When you delete a project, the launcher actually removes all the files. That’s the point.

You can only get them back if you have a backup. Do you have one?

The Epic Launcher can’t just delete random files from your computer, how exactly did you go about deleting your project? Also there are programs like EaseUS that can restore files that have been marked as deleted or been overwritten by a smaller file.

No I’ve never had this happen before to files that weren’t the project files. It literally deleted 97% of my computers data.

When you go to the unreal tab and it shows all your projects I deleted it from there, and I don’t have the cash to shell out for the programs I’m a broke college student.

Did you have the project file directly on your desktop or in a folder on your desktop?

EaseUS is free btw. At least it was…

It was in a folder on my desktop since my friend just sent it back to me.

I’ll look into it when I get home, I was looking at recuva and it’s pretty pricey.

Ok, then it should have only delete files in that folder…

That’s what I assumed when it said project files, but then literally 95% of the folders on my desktop started disappearing as well and all the folders that were left were completely empty it deleted everything on my computer

Hmmm, time for EaseUS by the sound of it…

It cost money so that’s a no go.

It’s no longer free sadly.

There is a free version that will recover 2GB.
