I’d like to see a new smoothing tool, that will keep building edges sharp, while smoothing out flat surfaces a lot.

I fully support this request. No matter how many 20MB pictures I take of one simple objects, the result is always a very blobbery 3D object. Ideally, you would add an algorithm to create flat surfaces from that kind of objects automatically. Failing that (or in addition), if you added a simple tool to draw a rectangle by clicking on the corners of each side of a flat surface, and than turn that into a flat surface, that would be really great.
