Small theme pack for UE 5.1

Hi,

UE5 has introduced a new theme editor, which makes it possible to properly customize the editor theme colors. In UE5 it had quite poor UX, which made it very difficult to share the theme files, and it was still very buggy. In 5.1 however, it seems improved and finally somewhat stable and reliable.

It now has buttons to import and export themes, instead of requiring the user to become an oracle and guess which folder they belong to

So, since we can now share themes comfortably, I am sharing a couple of mine. I’ve made them since while I don’t think the default, out of the box UE5 theme looks bad, for my taste, it has too much of eye straining contrast.

Here they are:

Just unzip them and use the theme import button to get them in

Thanks for sharing! Whenever I’ve been opening UE4 lately I get this feeling of ‘coming home’. Your themes give a similar vibe.

I feel like a forum theme-sharing thread should be in our near future, but for now please permit me to throw Joe Wintergreen’s OG Steam theme into this thread!

Just curious… Do you have any luck getting the Active Theme Editor Preference to stick in UE5.1 P2? Whenever I change the theme in 5.1 P2, it seems to get reset back to default after editor restart. I’ve already reported it as a bug, but it would be still useful to know if it’s just me, or everyone.

I am also unable to get my theme selection to persist between editor restarts! (5.1 p2)

ALSO - When I tried using the ‘Import/Export Theme’ buttons they both fail.

I needed to place themes in C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.1\Engine\Content\Slate\Themes\ to see them. (I had to create the ‘Themes’ folder in that path)

Interesting. Importing for me actually works, just the saving doesn’t. Anyway, it’s already reported so I will let you know if I hear back.

This works nicely, once you import one from this location, other themes also pop up in the dropdown. Placing them there makes them non-editable since they are now considered native themes. Not a biggie, ofc. However, this seems like a more natural location for custom themes:

AppData\Local\UnrealEngine\Slate\Themes - it populates the dropdown and makes them editable.

Btw, the Steam one is the most awful shade of washed out green-grey I’ve witnessed :innocent:

@Rawalanche The OneGrayDarker seems like the sweet spot for me after almost 10 years of UE4, all of them are pleasing, actually. A big thank you! I spent half an hour fiddling with the sliders and couldn’t make it feel remotely close to OK :expressionless:

To add to the themes topic. In order to modify the graph background colour: feed the brush plain colour image and, optionally, tint it:
