Sludge Games ( Interactive Sludge Content )

If you’re not familiar with the concept of Sludge Content just search Youtube.

Although many despise it, it is believed to be effective way to increase viewership. I can see this strategy being deployed as two or more interactive games that can be played simultaneously and turned-based. At the minimum, in the form of interactive loading and in-game adverstisements.

Lets discuss.

What is sludge content?

Sludge content is consuming TikTok. Why aren't we talking ...

‘Sludge content’ is filling up TikTok feeds, using split screens to pair users’ clips with unrelated footage. It’s aimed at getting users to watch for just a little longer, and increase views for content creators.

Geez, first time hearing the term Sludge Content but having something attractive in peripheral vision to keep one’s attention is not really new.

So what, a funny cat video in one corner, bouncing buttocks in the other, some kid playing Minecraft in an overlay and an uninteresting individual TickTocking utterly boring content in the middle? Sounds like mindless madness with extra steps :expressionless:

But then, who am I to judge what and how you consume the sludge?

I so hope this does not materialise globally and it’s just a fad. Or…

I think Sludge Content already exists in Games. I call them ‘Side Quest’. LOL.

If you’re considering this strategy, it’s important to carefully evaluate its potential benefits and drawbacks. While Sludge Content might help attract viewers and increase engagement initially, it’s crucial to maintain a balance so that it doesn’t become overwhelming or irritating for your audience. Too much intrusive advertising or excessive distractions can result in negative user experiences, leading to a decline in viewership and potential backlash.

To make the most of this approach, it would be wise to conduct thorough market research and gather feedback from your target audience. Understand their preferences and expectations to ensure that the interactive games, turn-based elements, and in-game advertisements align with their interests without compromising the overall user experience.

I don’t know if passive sludge actually works simply due to how attention requires some form of focus. I would question if one is looking at the boring TicToc or the Sludge? If it is the Sludge, then TicToc itself is inert (not sure if this impacts monetization). May need a survey at the end of the Vid to know for sure.

Speaking of Survey’s, how about some Interactive Forms?

Sure, why Not? But, I’m not talking about just overlaying games over a TicToc, Perhaps the games are part of the TicToc, or better yet overlaying several mini games over a primary game, switching between ai control (similar to autoplay of incremental game) and player control on-demand.

Perhaps go in the opposite direction, and overlay sludge videos over the game. For Me TicTocs are mindless madness sludge by default. LOL.

But I’m not sure its a fad due to the massive consumption of entertainment. I personally know individuals who binge-watch multiple TV series simultaneously with multiple Monitors and In-pic Screens. The interesting thing is, they know whats going on in each series to the smallest details. The difference is they WANT to watch it this way.

It’s interesting to explore different strategies for increasing viewership on platforms like YouTube. The idea of combining two or more interactive games that are turn-based sounds innovative and engaging. It could potentially offer a unique viewing experience for the audience, which can be appealing.

Interactive loading and in-game advertisements are also clever ways to keep viewers engaged and potentially monetize content. When used thoughtfully and not overly intrusive, these strategies can enhance the overall viewer experience. However, as with any content strategy, it’s essential to strike the right balance to ensure that the audience doesn’t feel overwhelmed or deterred by excessive advertising.
