I am having massive issues with the whole migration to FAB.
There are fundamental problems currently and as a business owner, it is costing as precious time trying to go around in circles finding a solution when we have already paid for service via Sketchfab. Furthermore, there is no Sketchfab support I can reach to as it keeps transferring me to the FAB page.
Issues below;
I am unable to setup EPIC account with the email address admin@(our own domain) as apparently that is against the rules. Our Sketchfab account is admin@(our own domain) and hence I am unable to link the two accounts as the Epic account will be a different email address.
I have created an account using our purchasing@(our own domain) and it is stuck at Trader verification. Having submitted all the necessary business documentation yet it keeps failing. If it is an automated system, it needs human input to verify the details as I do not know what else to submit.
Sketchfab allowed uploads of .STL data as most our files generated from scan data are natively saved out as .STL. We will now have to convert all our Sketchfab marketplace items into .OBJ as if it is not .OBJ, FAB will not import them. That is to say once I can actually get my account to work!
All the migration should have been automatic, from account creation to data handling. You are asking users, some of which do not have “games development” background to migrate into this interface which necessarily does not work for the use case of “non-game-developer” sellers. The help I am getting is meh. Also, most help cannot be accessed without actually logging in and since I cannot login with the same email address as my sketchfab account, it makes the whole process even more complicated!
Currently we are investigating other 3D asset management libraries and might just migrate somewhere else…
We’re not aware of any reason that admin@(your domain) would be blocked, especially if purchasing@(your domain) works fine. Are you able to change the email address in your Epic Account settings from purchasing@ to admin@ ( https://www.epicgames.com/account/personal ) ?
Regardless, the email address you use on your Epic Games account and the email address you use for your Sketchfab account do NOT have to be the same in order to migrate. You just need to make sure that the Epic Games account that you used to create your Fab profile is the same Epic Games account that you connect to your Sketchfab account in your Sketchfab settings ( Log in to your Sketchfab account - Sketchfab ).
I’m sorry for the inconvenience about the formats we decided to drop in Fab compared to what Sketchfab supports. We needed to focus on the most popular and most used by consumers in our marketplaces. On Sketchfab, STL represents less than 1% of all assets in the marketplace and less than 1% of all purchases. In the future, especially when Fab becomes a destination for more non-marketplace content, we plan to offer support for more formats.
I agree that some parts of this process could have been smoother. I’m afraid that it couldn’t be made fully automatic though, as there are legal obligations and other compliance concerns surrounding linking accounts, collecting information, moving data around between different entities, publishing content in a new marketplace with different processes, etc.
To your last point, I want to make it clear that for now, ONLY the Sketchfab Store is shutting down. All the other asset management capabilities, social features, and business solutions of Sketchfab are remaining in place until further notice. Even if you choose not to migrate your Store models to Fab, they will remain on Sketchfab to be viewed, embedded, etc.
I cannot go past Trader Verification currently. It keeps failing although we’ve uploaded the Cert of Incorp & even VAT documents.
I have now linked our “purchasing@” email address to the FAB account but I guess I will have to wait for Trader Verification to be completed before we can start re-uploading assets as .OBJ
