Skeleton alembic is same to FBX skeleton mesh?

in the doc,it said that Skeletal Mesh mode for the alembic import " is the most efficient way to play back an Alembic animation", i wonder if this mode is same the FBX skeleton mesh import, I mean in the sequencer i can add one actor and load different ainmation clips/ cache clips.

i read the Fortnite Trailer Developing a real-time pipeline for a faster workflow.pdf, the workline is great,but it is a pity the part of facial animation cache is not very detailed.
