Skeletal mesh normals / smoothing groups issue

I have a problem currently when trying to fix the normals on a skeletal mesh. The first import didn’t have smoothing groups turned on so all the normals where wrong / very smoothed so i flattened the normals in maya and re-exported with smoothing groups and the normal still remain the same in Unreal after reimporting and i cant seem to fix it.
When importing the new mesh to a new project i get the new updated correct normals, even tried migrating and manually copy the files to my main project but the normals are still wrong in that specific project.

Any ideas?
