Skeletal Mesh Editing Tools (Unreal Engine 5+)

First of all, the Skeletal Mesh Editing Tools are a great addition to the Unreal Engine toolset, as are the vertex and weight map painting tools and there’s many places they could go in the future with them. Kudos to the development team.

Request: Configurable symmetry painting in vertex and weight map painting tools

This request would obviously affect all vertex and weight map painting tools engine and API wide I imagine. Being able to paint in configurable symmetry would cut manual skeleton rigging time in half as I’m sure it would apply to any other operations that utilize vertex painting/weight map painting.

Issue: Brush tracking during weight painting in any of the orthographic viewport modes

It seems that the brush doesn’t track mouse position very well across surfaces (in surface mode) when the editor viewport is in any of the orthographic modes. However, it works perfectly in perspective mode.

In the absence of symmetry during vertex and weight map painting, orthographic mode is indispensible as a workaround. However, without accurate brush tracking, this workaround for symmetry is useless.

I’m using game ready (rather than studio) drivers on a fairly recent RTX powered card, and the drivers are up to date, so this issue doesn’t seem to be related to drivers.

Its such an awesome feeling to be able to report issues of these kinds about tools that actually exist, more so than it is to gripe on forums about a lack of these kinds of tools in any software. Again, great work development team.
