skeletal mesh animation

i have a character bp with the mesh having another skeletal mesh for the bow attached to it when i play the shoot montage on the player mesh it works but i need the fire bow animation to play on the bow mesh at the same time i thought just dragging a referance to the bow into play montage would work but it doesnt seem to i have an anim bp set up for the bow and slot set to default but still nothing

i tried setting booleans in the player bp and calling them in the bow anim bp but i get an error about bow cant get the booleans from player bp even tho i cast and promote them to variables in bow animbp
