Hi there. I´ve been contacted by a training Company that wants to include on their current Courses (most of them tailored to industrial processes and operations) a simulated explanation of concepts and operational risks. This simulation would be part of training Courses which are a combination of Class-room lectures, practical exercises and interactions with physical assets at the Company´s school.
This Company wants me to develop the simulation environment and deliver an executable App to run on their Computers. The general idea is that the Company´s teachers use the App to show concepts and eventually assess Students´ learning curve. Moreover, the app will be used on the Company´s computers only.
I´m currently an independent Consultant and want to develop the App using UE. Do I need to consider Royalty fees in this case? Does the training Company need to consider Royalty fees for using the App as part of their Courses? Thank you in advance for your help.
The revenue you receive from the company will be royalty free under both the Publishing and Creator EULAs given that you are being paid for a custom work-for-hire product. Can you tell us more about how the company intends to use the product? For example, will they be “presenting” the product to end users online, solely via a video feed?
Thank you for your answer. The Company would be presenting the product as part of its on-line courses and after explaining technical concepts. For instance, one of the Courses is called “how safely isolate and operate industrial equipment”. Teachers would be presenting to students videos, slides and case studies by sharing their screen on Zoom. At the end of the session, teachers would be using the App installed in their computers (sharing their screen as well) in order to explain practical concepts such as how to operate valves and which operational procedures are recommended. Also, these courses are for registered students only (not open to the general public) and most of the time talirored-made. Thank you again.
Thanks for the follow-up. The company would not incur royalty obligations for this use.
