Simpler sync alternative to source control?

Hi! I’ve fiddled with a couple of source control options, but found them way more clunky and convoluted for my needs.

I’m a solo developer, so having to check out, submit, manage streams/depots, branches, workspaces. All of this stuff is just an unnecessary hassle to me.
All I really need is to be able to select my content, source, config folders and the uproject file and have them synchronise with an equivalent project folder on my portable device.

Do you have any suggestions on software or other solutions of how to do this?

I used to do this with dropbox years ago, but they removed the option to select files to sync and opted for a universal “dropbox folder” you drop things into instead.

Opinions will vary but I find Tortoise SVN the simplest.

Perforce offers is free for 5 (?) users.
Can be setup on local machine, handles source and assets.

I used perforce for a while, but I found managing depots, workspaces way more finicky than what I need for my purposes, having to checkout files and get revisions every time I change platform really slows the process down. I really just want to find something that synchronises *some *of my files between platforms.
