Hi there,
I am currently starting a sidescroller project, and all went pretty well so far. Although I am at the very start of the project, I stumbled upon a main question which affects the whole project.
I am aiming for a arcade like sidescroller game with automatically “scrolling” the level.
So the camera moves from start of the level to the end, no matter what the player is doing, BUT the player cannot exceed the cameras boundaries.
just like this here C64 Longplay - Katakis
or any other oldschool sidescroller game.
I know these old games simply scrolled the background pattern instead of scrolling through the level itself, but I do think it would make more sense to keep the player and camera constanly moving, or am I completely wrong here?
