Should I use realtime Animation or video for Jumpscare?

I am adding a jumpscare for my game over effect but I want to know which method is more effective and stable: animation or video?

I can easily make an animation outside of unreal and just import it as a video but I recall the process of adding media to the game being somewhat cumbersome. I am considering using a real time animation but I am worried about the in-game model running into problems like clipping or bugging out of the map or something.

Maybe I am just overthinking this?

Hello,

Importing media is exponentially less cumbersome now with the introduction of the media plate.

You’re going to jumpscare the player for every game over? That sounds cruel :-p (although a small percentage chance of an alternate game over screen with jumpscare seems fun)

I think keeping it in realtime would keep the player immersed, as long as there is some distance between your camera and model I don’t see why there would be clipping.

Hehe, it’s a sit and click game so jumpscares are what spice up the gameplay. Hmm… I never considered alternate game over screens though. Thank you for the idea… hehehehe…

Good point. One of my main gripes about the realtime animations is having to properly import everything without problems and then setting up the different animations but… I am just going to keep it simple for this game. Dealing with animations in unreal gives me migraines
