Should i learn blender?

i just started using unreal 5 for like 2 months now and i think i got the hang of it.
so i see alot of people using blender in their projects but i have no clue what are they using it for. and that made me wonder if i should learn it. cause maybe im missing out a potential good tool.

so, my questions are:
1-is learning blender is a must for game dev?
2- what are the things that blender can help me with in game dev?
3- is it hard to learn? (takes alot of time?)
4-where can i learn it? (YouTube channel suggetions or something)

Hi there,
Welcome.
Blender is a free, complete 3D application highly used by the visual effects industry, feature modeling, rigging characters, texturing, sculping, physics simulations and much more. It is also largely used by the Gaming Development Industry for assets creation and animation.

Here is a video with an overview:
What is Blender Used For - YouTube

Hope that clarifies.

  1. If you want to make your own models, or do indie dev then learning Blender or any other 3D package is going to be beneficial.

  2. You can make models, rigs and animations with it. Also, understanding how 3D models work will help you at some things as a programmer or an artist i.e setting up materials.

  3. Relatively easy to learn basics, but the rabbithole does go very deep.

  4. Youtube, and some places with paid tutorials. Learn camera controls, uv unwrapping, exporting to unreal and topography etc.

thank you both very much
