Several Issues and Feedback for the Motion Design Page.

Hey Epic team, I’ve been iterating in the Motion Design template and the Material Designer for the first time and hit a number of issues. They’re grouped below into likely bugs and a couple of suggestions.

Unreal Version 5.7.0

1. Undo is unavailable for most new operations

Many operations can’t be undone, which makes iterating hard. For example, after using the color picker to pick a new color, I can’t undo it… there’s no way back to my previous color.

Expected: Ctrl+Z should revert color changes and most other actions, like changing variables in the Details Panel (Undo doesn’t work there as well).

2. Can’t edit the secondary gradient color from the quick toolbar without switching color

When using a gradient, I can’t change the secondary color from the quick toolbar without first switching to it, which makes the gradient mirror, which is unfortunate for a design approach.

Expected: Both gradient stops should be editable directly in the quick toolbar without making them switch places or using the Details Panel.

3. Alignment menu closes after every selection

After I click an alignment option, the menu closes, so I have to reopen the Align menu each time I want to try a different alignment.

Expected: The menu should stay open so I can apply several alignments in a row.

4. “F” focus snaps back in camera mode

If the Motion Design page and viewer are opened in camera mode, pressing F frames the view and then immediately snaps back.

Expected: I understand why this is the way it is but I would prefer it to simply disable it or F should frame the selection and get back to the Camera viewport on release and not instantly.

5. Material Designer: Blend mode doesn’t persist in the Generated Material, and is missing without restarting the Material Designer window

Expected: Choosing a Blend Mode in the Global Settings should expose the Opacity option immediately or ask me to restart the window, and the blend mode should persist in the generated material without needing to close and reopen the Material Designer.

6. Z axis as depth in the 2D Motion Design template

Expected: In many Motion Design Programs the Z axis represents depth in the 2D Motion Design template. Simple Solution would be to just put the Template on the floor, so Z acts as the depth.

7. Motion Design Window stays even though not in Motion Design Mode

One of the bigger problems for me was that the Motion Design viewer window stays in Motion Design view even though I selected Selection Mode and not Motion Design Mode. I have to either completely shut it down and create a new one, or change it in the menu in the top right.

8. When spawning a Cloner I can’t revert the rotation and location to 0.

Expected: I understand that it creates the position from the viewport’s rotation and location, but making all values 0 should bring it back to the origin with 0 rotation.

9. PerInstance Suggestion or Question

Please make perInstance operations possible in the material graph for the cloners :smiley: or maybe I just haven’t found a way yet to manipulate each “clone.” I hope that helps further develop the product!
