Hello all! I would like to setup version control for my project but I am not sure where to start. How did everyone else start? I only have one computer available (the one I develop on), is this alright? Thank you!
EDIT: What do you guys think of this? Is this alright? GitHub Codespaces · GitHub
I would say go get perforce it’s free for up to like 20 workspaces. can run on your local machine, and if needed can be moved to a 3rd party hosting if you expand to others. It’s also got the version control mechanics built into UE4 by default so no real tinkering.
Hey! Thanks for the reply. I installed the Perforce Visual Client as well as the server. I am not exactly sure if I did this right, but here is what I did:
- After installation, I launched the visual client and followed the connection setup wizard.
- I then launched P4Admin, went to the depots tab and created a new stream depot called Kold-UE4.
- I went through the Add Files wizard (I selected my project folder) and now it’s uploading the files.
Is this correct? Thank you!
yeah, now when you load into the UE4 client after that. in the upper right corner there is a circle with line through it click on it, and it will ask for your settings for the source control.
Add in your information for the perforce and it will connect up and you will be good to go.
