Hi All. I have what I think is a basic question. When implementing Music and 2D Ambiences into UE4 how to I ensure that they will be set to “Streaming”
Thanks,
It is a checkbox on the sound wave. I do not recall if the streaming feature was “turned on” by default in 4.17 (I think it was) so the UI may be hidden by default. If it is, you can enable the feature in your project’s settings in miscellaneous → “show audio streaming options”.
It has nothing to do with music – audio streaming is independent of the intended application/context of the sound file.
It’s in project settings, miscellaneous. 4.5.1 is an ancient version of UE4 (over 2.5 years old) – you should consider getting a newer (preferably latest) version!
does the check box read “is music” or does it actually say “stream” somewhere? I tried to find miscellaneous but I wasn’t successful. Which Tab is it under? “Project, Engine, Platforms, Plugins?”
Version is UE4 4.5.1
I would love to, but i’m constricted by the team’s decisions at the moment. Just trying to make it work with what we got. Here are the selections I see when opening Project settings…
Yeah, not sure where it is – or even if it was exposed back then (or even implemented at all in 4.5). I started at Epic at 4.7 so 4.5 is even before my time. I don’t currently have time to download a new 4.5 binary from our launcher to check it out but looking at that screenshot, it’s probably in one of the other tabs (General Settings), etc. You should be able to search in the top for “streaming” probably in the search bar, though maybe that feature was added after 4.5.
The unfortunate thing though, is even if you did enable it, streaming wasn’t fully supported until 4.16 and was barely functional on PC before that.
