Set Input Mode to Game Only not working

I am trying to remove the Object menu HUD I made, and regain control of the character, but after using the Set Input Game Only, its acting like Game and UI, but weird. The camera follows my mouse until I click, then it becomes game and ui. I am starting to get really mad and decided to ask for help. I couldnt find anything online either and am wondering if i am encountering a weird UE 5.3 bug.

Video Showcasing Problem

The behavior you described (camera follows the mouse until you click, then it drops back into Game and UI) is the menu widget still sitting in the viewport and still able to take focus. Set Input Mode Game Only does not close the widget, so the next click focuses it again and you are back in Game and UI. That is the normal focus path, not a 5.3 bug.

From the button that closes the menu, do it in this order:

  1. Remove the menu from the viewport (Remove from Parent), or set its Visibility to Collapsed / Not Hit-Testable (Self and All Children). Do that before changing the input mode.
  2. Get Player Controller, then Set Input Mode Game Only.
  3. On that same controller, Set Show Mouse Cursor = false. Game Only does not clear the cursor if you turned it on for the menu.
  4. Make sure nothing else calls Set Input Mode Game and UI on Tick, on mouse down, or with the menu still wired into Widget to Focus.

If the camera still only starts looking after a click once the widget is gone, check Project Settings > Engine > Input > Default Viewport Mouse Capture Mode. “Capture During Mouse Down” feels exactly like “it only locks after a click”. For a character game use Capture Permanently, or Capture Permanently Including Initial Mouse Down.

If this widget is a Common UI activatable widget, do not drive it with the raw Set Input Mode nodes. Deactivate the widget. Common UI will push Game and UI back on the next click otherwise.
