Hey guys.
What is the best way to implement the character movement on the sequencer so there is no foot slide?
Thank you
a root motion animation…
The animations I have are all of them already done and are threadmill, any way to still correct this?
In a DCC yes. Just apply root motion to it on a Touch frame basis.
Assuming the motion has been worked on and standardized the total frame count should be 24, and every 6 frames you have either a high or a low of the hip.
the low being the contact point.
You need to ensure that the root motion doesn’t slide when the foot is making hard contact with the floor, which is usually a duration of about 3 frames.
While it needs to be allowed to slide while the legs move apart in order to keep the back foot planted.
The other alternative is to get the character movement speed correct to the animation speed, and then adjust the animation speed based on the character’s actual motion (delta in position, not physical velocity.) Fix up the feet with some IK and “pin” them to contact points when they’re actually on the ground and haven’t moved much, and it’ll work fine. No need to change the animations themselves, if you can do it technically instead.
… its not necessarily easy mind you.
I doubt it is “the bes” since the best is hands down root motion… But …
you may get more joy with the new control rig setup if you need to modify stuff for sequencer?
Its right into the epic launcher this week…
