I would love separation of the allow item drop setting (in island setting and the Team Settings & Inventory device) to be two settings, allow weapon/item drop and allow resources drop (or similar). Basically players can drop guns and consumables but not resources like gold and keycards.
Often world resources are used to track certain things, unlock places, used to purchase things and many more. In Aim Edit Piece for example I used them back at the start of UEFN (and still do), with gold, to track eliminations for an on HUD lifetime elimination counter. Iâve seen cases in the past of players not understanding the use of some of these items and dropping them, then either because they backed out of the game or dropped them in a mutator zone with pickup life span theyâve then lost them. I would love to turn off allow item drop to stop issues like this but then players canât freely drop weapons (or pick them up in their inventory is full).
I was also thinking ahead to the upcoming release of Selling items directly to players. Selling access cards, gold and other resources will probably be apart of that. Having the ability to stop players unintentionally/accidentally dropping items would be important, while still having the freedom to change their weapons and items in normal gameplay. It would also help will potential issues of reselling or trading/scamming, if I was providing something I knew a player could drop to others I could stop this by not allowing those to be dropped. I guess having the choice would be nice without it impacting other aspects of the game like swapping weapons etc.
I know there are other ways of tracking things in UEFN/verse, however a lot of people myself included use world resources to do so. Added to that, with the introduction of custom items and resources coming I feel being able to collect world resources (now custom ones) and players being able to check their inventory to see them is going to be important. For example maybe a Halloween game where you collect candy, even better that just an on screen âcandy counterâ would be actually seeing physical custom candy in their inventory. I feel this highlights the key use of world resources and is another reason I feel having that slightly more control would be beneficial moving forward.
Iâm hoping this was clear and would be a simple addition. I would appreciate the teams consideration on this. Thanks
