Seeking Advice on Simulating Camera Moves with Focus Control in Game Development

Hey fellow forum members!

I hope you’re all doing well. As a camera assistant with a passion for honing my focus-pulling skills, I’ve decided to embark on a new project – building a game that allows me to practice those skills during slow work periods. I’ve successfully figured out how to access manual focus in a cinecamera, but now I’m facing a bit of a challenge.

I want to simulate various camera moves, such as dolly, crane, and steadicam shots, within the game. However, I’m not quite sure about the best approach to achieve this. Moving the camera as the player is where I’m currently stuck.

Here’s the twist: The idea is that as the in-game character moves farther or nearer to the camera, the player, using a controller, must keep the actor in focus by manually controlling the focus.

If any of you have experience or insights into how I could implement these camera moves effectively, along with the added challenge of manual focus control based on character proximity, I’d greatly appreciate your advice. Whether it’s through specific tools, techniques, or even relevant resources to guide me in the right direction, your input would be invaluable.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions. Let’s make this game a fantastic learning experience for camera enthusiasts!
