See You At UnrealFest 2023 + GameSoundCon 2023

The UE Audio team is excited about delivering our upcoming presentations at Unreal Fest 2023 ( Oct 3-5 2023 ) + GameSoundCon 2023 ( Oct 17-18 2023 ). If you haven’t registered yet, there is still time ( see ‘Upcoming Conferences Details’ section below ). This advanced post gathers many of the resources we will be sharing during our presentation to make it easier for our community members to follow along. In a short while, we will update this post with summaries of the conference, and links to recorded sessions.


Recent / Updated Features

  • New MetaSound Nodes: The full list of MetaSound nodes can be found here. In 5.2, the new nodes added were Perlin Noise, Low Frequency Noise, Super Oscillator, Wave TableOscillator. If you want to write your own MetaSound node, you can check out this tutorial that walks through writing a pitch shift MetaSound node.
  • Updated Audio Modulation docs are coming soon. Audio Modulation allows you to adjust the parameters of various audio-related systems in your game in real time.
  • MetaSound Output Watching ( experimental for 5.3, docs coming in future release ) enables Blueprint or C++ to watch for changes in the MetaSound graph. This enables users to match gameplay and visuals to events happening in MetaSounds. As an example, you can affect gameplay elements and visuals according to a musical beat, or change in audio.
  • The MetaSound Builder API ( experimental for 5.3, docs coming in future release ) makes it possible to create and make changes to a MetaSound graph through C++ or Blueprint APIs while the game is running in real time. This opens up the possibility of adding/removing MetaSound nodes and modifying connections during gameplay.
  • You can also learn more about Unreal Editor for Fortnite audio and how you can publish directly into Fortnite.
