This might be a dumb question to ask, but I would rather know the answer. Why can’t I scale only in the direction I want? Let me explain what I mean!
- My actor is snapped to the surface and I want to scale it towards the Z direction only without having my actor moving from the snapped surface.
- I snapped my actor into the Y direction and I only wanted to scale towards Z or X without having my actor moving from the snapped surface.
Is this possible? It should be. Please take a look at the video and if you have a solution to this, let me know and thank you. Am I missing a setting that solves this issue?
Update (1:00pm US, ET) : Is everyone having some issue opening up material instance? I checked my older version and the engine is acting weird there too!

I don’t think its possible, because the location of the mesh would need to change during scaling.
You could have a cube that scales upwards, the way you want, but it would need to pivot at the base.

Same when you scale next to a wall

As far as the selection problem goes, not sure :), its probably that pop-up browser.

I am surprised that no one ever said anything about this! I couldn’t find anything online, but I am sure the Epic Games team have probably thought about it, and it is most likely impossible to pull off because the location of the mesh would need to change like you said!
Have a great weekend and hope you are doing will too.

Update: After talking to my game jam teammates, two of them are pros, and I gave both of them a hard time, and they said, "We have never seen this before?’ But one of them soon figured out that it was hiding in my window corner and it was so tiny, which is why we couldn’t see it! We all ended up laughing and had a great time finishing this cool game. It will be out today!
Unreal Engine, I hope you can forgive me for calling you weird. I thought it was you, since I am using 5.6, but in the end it was my mistake. Please forgive me!
