save Displacement Map as png or jpg

Hello everyone,

is it possible to save the displacement map as png or jpg during texture reprojection? I can only save the map as exr. If I then drag the map i photshop to make it seamless, I always only see a black layer. I have already downloaded the EXR IO plugin for Photoshop, but I still only get the black layer. Can anybody help me further?

Thanks in advance and best regards Jannik

Hi Jannik,
it is not possible to export other format than EXR for displacement maps:

Is it possible for you to open that map in other viewer?

Hey, thanks for your reply. No when i open the exr i only get an black image… My Plan is to make the displacement map seamless in Photshop

Hi, can you try to change Mode in PS to 16bit/channel?

hey, no it doesnt work… the image is still black:/

Is there another way to create my displacement map? In Quixel there are also displacement maps in PNG format. The only way is to make the EXR file visible in Photoshop with the saturation brightness. If I then save the file as PNG, it has small lines in the render program.
i attached a Screenshot.

OK then,
please do right click on Layer in PS and select Blending options:

and try to change Current layer to a smaller value:

After that I can see the displacement map in PS.
As I see your screen shot, the scale of the value corresponds to the coordinate system of the mesh, so the values may be quite small, and thus the texture may appear black when interpreted as color.

Okay. i find it out. i was doing this like the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00eHKPaaoRo&t=421s

Thank you buddy!
When i put the reprojektion plane closer to the obj objekt the displacement map gets brighter. i put it now a couple centimeters under the obj Mesh and the displacement exr is finally grey. But how can i change this with the coordinate system you mentioned?

I think you can’t change it with coordinate system. It is just connected, as you can have small heights there compare to other dimensions, so they are not so visible in the grey scale.

okay, so there is no way to get rid of this? When i plig the exr in i dont have this lines only when i put a tiff or png in the slot.

I think I am a little bit lost now.
You wrote this: When i put the reprojektion plane closer to the obj objekt the displacement map gets brighter.
Are you doing this in RC or in Blender?
Also is this applied to Blender: When i plig the exr in i dont have this lines… ?
Is it possible to share your displacement map?

No problem, my English isn’t really the best. The first in Blender and the second also in Blender. I can share the shift.

i put it in this link:WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free

I am sorry, but we are not allowed to download data from external sources. Would it be possible to use our Box? If so, I will send you the invitation for upload.

yea sure you can send it!

Hi, thank you for the map.
Is this the original map or somehow corrected?
Because when I opened it in PS it looks like this:

Yes, that’s exactly the map. The map doesn’t look very good. It was only intended for testing
