Saulius Zaura - CHUILO Sculpture Photogrammetry

On February 24, 2025, three years had passed since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. To mark this somber date, Lithuanian sculptor Martynas Gaubas unveiled his latest work, the over two-meter-tall “Chuilo.”

“A sculptor’s language is silent—no words, lights, or sounds, only form. But how to subtly express a message that screams: WHEN WILL RUSSIA’S AGGRESSION STOP? That’s why the sculpture is brutally primitive, mocking pop art, stuffed with symbolism so clear even the blind can see. This time, I’m not playing intellectual riddles—there are no questions, only clear answers,” said Gaubas.

“Yes, it’s unpleasant to look at. But is there another way to depict Putin? We can pretend otherwise, but he has rewritten himself into history’s trash heap. I simply gave him the fitting visual portrait,” he added.
