Ryzen 7 5800X or Ryzen 9 3900X

Hi!

I thinking about replacing my old 4 thread i5 6600k which is very good for gaming but not that good for development.

Very the release of the new AMD Ryzen gen I have some doubts about getting the new one with 8/16 threads of the previous gen with 12/24.

I understand that more threads are better for Unreal development but I wonder if its worth to get better technology with less cores (better memory system, Pcie 4.0 support for fast M2 discs…)

What are your thoughts about??

Thanks

More cores doesn’t automatically mean that it’s better, there’s also the clock speed. Some things in a software program can’t use more than one core so in those situations you want something with better single core performance.
If you’re looking for a new CPU then you should check out some benchmarks and try to find one that has a good balance between core count and clock speed.

it seems like the previous gen Ryzen 9 is slightly better than the new Ryzen 7 on Unreal Engine benchmarks (Unreal Engine: AMD Ryzen 5000 Series CPU Performance) but I can’t avoid to feel that now that I’m getting a new PC (and that is gonna happen again in 5 or 6 years), maybe I should go for the newest even if it has less cores…

I’m not into hardware stuff to be honest
