Hello
I am looking for a little advise please. What do you think would be better, the Ryzen 5 5700x od the Ryzen 7 5700G for UE5.
I will also be using a RTX 3060 12gb, two M2 1TB drives and 32gb Ram
Im new to UE and would like to firstly learn the software and create VR worlds…
More cores. If it’s in your budget, buy a CPU with more cores. If it’s not in your budget, save up and buy a CPU with more cores later.
12, better 16. I’m serious
And make sure your SSD have sustained write rates.
I cheaped out on my SSDs, and UE5 manages to trash them so hard they stall for long times sometimes (100% usage in task manager, no read/write activity, UE and other programs hanging and waiting for the IO).
Also, 32 GB is a bit low if you plan to use open world tools and such. Better do 64 GB, it’s quite cheap right now.
What he said, and better is always better. Unreal 5 is made for making massive open worlds. UE is also scalable, that with world partition, Hlod’s and layers, you can build the world in small chunks. World partition lets you unload and load different parts of the levels you are working on at any time. I have a 9th gen i7 with an Nvidia 1650. Works great for me.
This is my early access build of a game level. It needs a lot more props but I made and textured all of these models myself and imported them in, accept for the actual plants and the rock structure. The plants and rocks are Megascans. I did use Quixel mixer and Megascans to make my textures in this scene. This is running with Lumen and Nanite on an Nvidia 1650 with a 9th Gen i7. I’m not using channel packed textures on the models I made. I was being lazy and not using channel packed textures to quick concept a level from scratch, so there are a ton of extra texture maps in use.
I know this is old but I’m kind of in the same issue right now where I want to unreal with C++ and blender but I’m being limited to a family computer which is few years old now which has 5600x, 3060, and 16gb ddr4 (since its family computer i can’t upgrade it) and I’m having a hard time finding a job to save up for a new computer for me personally and with everything going on right now with ram and AI… 64 gigs of ram costs like literally $1 grand now…. I just would like to know how much/how little I am going to be able to accomplish with this hardware.
■■■■ if I ever told anyone to not do Unreal that would be the day hell freezes over.
You can use Unreal on a 5600x and 16 gig just fine. Be patient, you’ll probably have to wait a few seconds or minutes every now and then. Just don’t try to create massive open worlds and stuff or compile the whole engine every day.
With all the crazy hardware prices you might even have an advantage, learning to optimize for midrange hardware from the start.
