RVT foliage suddenly stops sampling from landscape

Hello, I am rather new to unreal 5 and especially RVTs. I have an issue with my RVT grass that I set up to sample the landscape color info. This works just fine up until a seemingly random point where the grass no longer look correct.


on the left is correct and on the right you can see the grass does not update with the ground color anymore. I made sure the volumes are coveing the entire landscape, I have tried everything I can think of but with no luck. I have tried modify the lights, the grass mesh and normals, lightmaps. I also tried to change the landscape to see if it was a issue with height. Any thoughts on what this might be caused by?
